As President Ho Chi Minh wrote: “Dien Bien Phu is akin to a shining golden landmark of history. It spells out where colonialism rolled downhill and disintegrated, while at the same time, the national liberation movement around the world is rising to complete victory." The Dien Bien Phu victory is truly a golden milestone of Vietnam's history.

“Nine years made a Dien Bien

Made the rim of the flower red, made the history golden."

- Tố Hữu -

The "red flower crown", "golden history" of that year still seems to be sparkling, shining until now, shining on the truth or more accurately, the Dien Bien Phu victory.

After the August Revolution in 1945, our nation should have enjoyed the newly won Independence and Freedom. But, that wish did not come to fruition in the end. History has put the nation in front of a vital choice; that is, either submit to slavery, or rise up to fight back against the second invasion of the French colonialists. Determined to fulfill the sacred promise in the "Declaration of Independence 1945": "The entire Vietnamese people are determined to put all their spirit and strength, life and wealth into upholding the right to freedom and independence", with the will: "It is better to sacrifice everything because we must not lose the country, must not be a slave", the entire Vietnamese people have put up a united front and bravely stood up "determined to brave death for the survival of the Fatherland”, waging a long and arduous resistance war with the belief that victory is inevitable.

After many days and nights of wading passes, crossing mountains, and living in the rain of bombs and bullets, we have overcome and won, bringing independence to the nation. Fifty-six days and nights of "carving out the mountains, sleeping in the basement, pouring rain, squeezed rice, blood mixed with young mud", with the spirit of fighting, determined to win, our troops completely annihilated the enemy stronghold group on May 7, 1954. The Dien Bien Phu campaign won. That victory brought the stature of the times, making a great contribution to the movement to fight for peace and progress of mankind; dealt a fatal blow to the foundations of French colonialism and American intervention, knocked down the bastion of old colonialism in the most critical position, marked the collapse of old colonialism on a worldwide scale. As President Ho Chi Minh wrote: “Dien Bien Phu is akin to a shining golden landmark of history. It spells out where colonialism rolled downhill and disintegrated, while at the same time, the national liberation movement around the world is rising to complete victory."

Nearly 70 years after the victory, our nation still carries strong pride with the "golden history", with the "red flower crown". Perhaps, this could be considered as an important milestone in the history of the country.
